Here are instructions for using TurnItIn with your Canvas courses:


  • When editing assignments, select Submission Type: External Tool.
  • Under "Enter or find an External Tool URL" click the Find button.


  • In the resulting popup window, click on "TurnItIn" on the list and then click the Select button.



  • Check the box for "Load This Tool In A New Tab"
  • Fill out the rest of your assignment details and click the Save & Publish button when it's ready.
When students come to submit their work, they will be automatically directed to upload their paper to the TurnItIn site, and upon submission, the instructor will receive a report about the Similarity to other writings, among other relevant details.
